How Much Do Managed IT Services Cost? (2026)
A straight answer with real numbers, from an IT company that publishes its prices.
Most small businesses pay $50 to $150 per computer per month for managed IT services. The low end covers monitoring, patching, and help-desk support. The high end adds a full security stack, cloud backup, server care, and compliance work. A 10-computer office typically pays $500 to $1,500 a month.
Why most IT companies will not tell you
Look around your area and most managed IT providers say "call for a quote." Some of that is real: every office is different. But a range is easy to give, and you deserve one before you spend an hour on a sales call. Ours is $50 to $150 per computer per month.
What you get at each end of the range
At the low end, you are paying for the basics done well: every computer monitored, updates and patches handled, and a help desk that answers when something breaks. That fits a small office with simple needs and its email already in Microsoft 365.
At the high end, you are adding the things that protect the business: endpoint detection and response, email security, multi-factor sign-in everywhere, cloud backup that is actually tested, server and network care, and the documentation an insurer or auditor asks for.
What moves your price
- Security coverage. The full security stack is the biggest single difference between a $50 and a $150 plan.
- Backup. Backing up Microsoft 365 and important computers costs more than backing up nothing, and far less than losing the data.
- Servers and networks. An on-site server, firewall, or multiple locations add work.
- Compliance. Law firms, medical and dental offices, and anyone answering a cyber-insurance questionnaire need documentation, not just protection.
How it compares to the alternatives
Hourly break-fix. You pay only when something breaks, which sounds cheaper until the month with three emergencies. It also means nobody is watching for problems before they happen.
Hiring someone. A capable IT hire costs well over $70,000 a year with benefits, and one person cannot be an expert in everything or work every hour. For an office under about 50 computers, managed IT usually costs a fraction of that.
Questions to ask any provider
- What exactly is included, and what gets billed extra?
- Is the price per computer or per user, and what counts?
- How long is the contract, and what does it cost to leave?
- When I call, who answers, and how fast?
- Will you put the quote in writing as a fixed monthly number?
If a provider will not answer those plainly, that tells you something. TechFort gives you a fixed quote after a free assessment, and the number does not move.
Quick answers
Is managed IT priced per computer or per user? Both models exist. TechFort prices per computer, because the computer is what gets monitored, patched, and protected. Ask any provider which model they use and what counts as a billable device.
Are there setup or onboarding fees? Some providers charge one. TechFort usually includes onboarding. Either way, ask before you sign so the first invoice has no surprises.
Is a long contract normal? Many providers ask for one to three years. TechFort is month to month. A provider confident in its service does not need to lock you in.
